CD6 of the UPC Campus in Terrassa is participating in a European project on interconnected and safe mobility with artificial intelligence

30/01/2024
A multidisciplinary team from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), which includes the Center for Development of Sensors, Instrumentation and Systems (CD6) based in Terrassa, is developing a network that combines artificial intelligence with 6G technologies, remote sensing systems and optical communication (both wireless and fiber optic) to enable vehicles, both autonomous and human-driven, to circulate safely and avoid accidents in areas with heavy traffic or high crowds. This is being done within the framework of the European project 6G-EWOC, coordinated by the UPC.

The European project 6G-EWOC (AI-Enhanced Fibre-Wireless Optical 6G Network in Support for Connected Mobility) coordinated by the UPC, has been one of the 27 selected in the second call of the Smart Networks and Services in 6G (6GSNS) programme, linked to the European framework programme Horizon Europe. The objective of the project is to develop the necessary technologies and design a 6G wireless and fiber optic network that, using artificial intelligence (AI), is capable of supporting a connected mobility system in environments with high traffic of vehicles and people.
