Industry of science

The industry of science deals with the conception, design and construction of new instruments for researchers or state-of-the-art scientific facilities. This sector may also include organizations that take care of operation and maintenance of such facilities.

In recent years, photonics has contributed to non-photonics ground-breaking research due to its potential to offer innovative solutions across various fields, such as large astronomical telescopes, advanced instruments for research in cosmology and astrophysics, particle physics or fusion energy research. These are large scale projects supported by worldwide organizations that involve state-of-the art engineering solutions. These projects are usually developed by private-public consortiums and awarded through international tenders in a global competition.
