The SASACI project successfully concludes the development of an innovative assistance system for the construction sector

25/09/2025
The SASACI project (CPP2021-008761), which features the active participation of the Center for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development (CD6) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), reaches its conclusion this September after 39 months of intense research and development activity. The closing of this initiative marks a technological milestone with the fulfillment of all planned objectives, centered on the creation of an intelligent assistance device specifically designed to optimize processes in the architecture, engineering, and construction sectors.

The resulting system consists of an advanced hardware and software solution utilizing smart Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) glasses. This tool has been conceived to provide comprehensive support throughout all stages of a building's life cycle, from initial design and planning to operational management and on-site monitoring. Thanks to the integration of specialized software, the device enables a substantial improvement in the efficiency of construction processes and real-time decision-making.

Within the consortium, CD6 has played a fundamental role as the lead for the design of the near-eye display optical system integrated into the device. The advanced near-eye visualization technology implemented represents a qualitative leap compared to current market solutions, offering superior levels of immersion, autonomy, and ergonomics. These technical advances are essential to ensure user comfort and the system's viability in demanding work environments, thus facilitating the definitive adoption of mixed reality in the construction industry.
