PATRONUS: New industrial process for manufacturing speckle pattern sheets

The PATRONUS project is in its final development phase. A novel industrial process has been created to manufacture sheets that generate "speckle" patterns easily and economically. The manufacturing method is based on spraying a solution containing microparticles onto polycarbonate sheets which, when illuminated by a laser, project the desired patterns. It has been found that the patterns are modified if the object where they are projected is moved away, so that the inter-distances between significant points are magnified linearly with the projection distance. This technology allows the development of precise distance measurements through the easy and rapid production of sheets with microparticles.
