Lecture: Optical Technology for Astronomy and Space Optics

Professor  Dr. Rainer Börret from  Aalen University of Applied Science (Germany) will give a 3-day lecture on Optical Technology for Astronomy and Space Optics. This activity is held under the BCN Master in Photonics and will take place at CD6.

Course Contents:
1.   Specification of optical element, error budget
2.   Properties of optical materials related to fabrication
3.   Principles of classical fabrication (grinding, diamond turning, polishing)
4.   Principles of computer controlled polishing
5.   Algorithms for computer controlled polishing
6.   Computer controlled figuring (Magneto Rheological Finishing (MRF), Ion Beam Figuring  (IBF), Plasma assisted chemical etching (PACE)
7.   Replication
8.   Principles of thin film design
9.   Coating technology
10. Selected metrology for some fabrication steps
