Significant advancements on "Multimodal Perception and Sensing for Autonomous Vehicles" (project USEFUL)

This month marks the halfway point (first year) of the USEFUL project (TED2021-132338B-I00). Under the title "Multimodal Perception and Sensing for Autonomous Vehicles" CD6 is developing, on the one hand, an instrumented real vehicle, and on the other hand, configuring a high-power computing server to train the datasets generated by the vehicle on new types of neural networks for the perception of vulnerable road users. The project falls within Spanish Research Agency call related to the Ecological and Digital Transition.

The project progresses according to plan, with computing systems already operational and the vehicle (a Dacia Duster) about to arrive for integration. During this first year, a vehicle simulator has been developed that has allowed integrating all sensors and the onboard computer into a battery-based system (not connected to the electrical grid), and the data structure for recording datasets has been generated following the nuscenes.org standard. In the coming weeks, the vehicle reception is expected for the integration and commissioning of the different sensors.
