Implementation of differential self-mixing interferometry systems for the detection of nanometric vibrations
Last Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Joan Salvadó Auditorium of the University Center of Vision, Francisco Javier Azcona Guerrero defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Implementation of differential self-mixing Interferometry systems for the detection of nanometric vibrations".The thesis has been supervised by Dr. Santiago Royo Royo, CD6 Director.
In the thesis is reported a technique called Differential Self-Mixing Interferometry through which it is possible to determine the displacement of vibrations with amplitudes less than λ/2 (400nm for NIR lasers) with a high resolution (λ/100). In combination with classical SMI it is possible to use the technique in a wide variety of applications ranging from biomedical measurements (eg. arterial pulse wave) to scientific applications (eg. vibration detection of cantilevers as used in AFM).
