BIOFOT: Development of a new photonic system for biochemical measurements

BIOFOT project funded by the Public-Private Collaboration Program call 2021, developed by Simulacions Òptiques S.L (SNELLOPTICS), RAL Técnica para el laboratorio, S.A, Asociación Centro Tecnológico CEIT-IK4 and the CD6-UPC, aims to design and development of a system that represents a technological leap in the measurement of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and coagulation, for its application in clinical diagnosis. The primary purpose of the system is to provide ESR and/or blood coagulation results in minimal time, with a minimal amount of sample, and using sustainable materials. The system will provide benefits that are significantly superior to the current state of the art, which will allow faster and earlier diagnosis of pathologies such as infections, tumors or autoimmune diseases, as well as monitoring the evolution of certain disorders. Recently, the measurement of these parameters has gained interest in relation to the effects of Covid-19.
