Plastic Optics for embbedded LEDs

Summary

The project goal is to develop new industrial processes for the manufacture of optical systems using plastic injection. This objective includes the revision of traditional optical design algorithms to adapt them to the characteristics of the injection process, as well as monitoring systems to provide specific data necessary to validate and review the manufacturing process at any stage it. In order to validate the technology, some  specific applications in the field of lighting are included like the development of LED embedding technology of components within the injection process. The results also apply to public lighting systems, security signs, dynamic signage and compact lighting / detection systems, which require the adaptation of the monitoring systems initially developed. The production process has resulted in products capable of generating energy savings such as optical systems for road lighting with LED panels or signage / road communication
